知識點1

average /'ævərɪdʒ/ n．平均；一般水平 adj.一般的；平均的

作名詞，表示“平均”

(1) 表示「平均」、「平均數」。

eg：The average of 2，4 and 6 is 4.

2，4，6的平均數是4。

(2) 表示「平均」、「一般水準」。

eg：These marks are above/below average.

這些分數在平均分數之上/下。

(3) 用於on average意為“按平均值”，“通常”。

eg：On average he works eight hours a day.

他平均一天工作八小時。

He smokes 20 cigarettes a day on average.

他平均一天要抽20支菸。

用作形容詞，也有兩個主要意思：

(1)表示“平均的”，通常只用作定語。

eg：The average age of these students is 20.

這些學生的平均年齡為二十歲。

(2)表示“一般的”、“普通的”，可用作定語也可用作表語。如：It is just an average dictionary.

stupid /'stjuːpɪd/ adj.愚蠢的；傻的

eg：That's a stupid plan.那是個愚蠢的計劃。

stupid可用作定語，也可用作表語。其比較級為

stupider或more stupid，最高級為stupidest或most stupid。

eg：That's a stupid suggestion.

那是一個愚蠢的建議。

Tom is stupider/more stupid than Jim.
