1.Fantastic facts about the butterfly have been drawing Dr. Taylor’s attention.

◆have been doing sth.是現在完成進行式,意為「一直在做某事」,表示從過去某時開始的某個動作或狀態一直延續到現在,而且還在進行。常表示動作的延續性、重複性、感情色彩等。

◆draw one’s attention意為「吸引某人的注意」。

2.Here,as many as 230 million butterflies spend the winter.

◆as…as…意為「與…一樣…」,兩個as之間可加形容詞或副詞的原級;也可加「many+複數名詞」,「much+不可數名詞」或「形容詞+a /an+單數名詞」,還可以在as…as…前加twice,half等字表示前後者倍數或分數關係。 as…as的否定形式為not as/so…as…。

◆spend為及物動詞,意為「度過,花(錢/時間)」,常用於固定結構:spend time/money(in)doing sth.花時間/金錢做某事;spend time/money on sth .在某物上花費時間/金錢;spend time with sb.和某人一起度過時光,句子的主語應為人,spend的過去式和過去分詞都是spent。

3.The butterflies that return to the south are the great-great grandchildren of the butterflies that left for the north.

◆that return to the south和that left for the north都是定語子句。

◆leave for意為「動身去…」。 leave意為「離開」,是位移動詞,可使用現在進行式表將來;leave與表示一段時間的狀語連用時,應改為be away(from)。
