1.North，south，east and west❶

This is north. North points up❷ on a map.

This is east. East points right.

This is west. West points left.

This is south. South points down.

2.A map of the world

Li Ming：Look at the map，Wang Mei. We can see all the countries ❸ around the world.

Wang Mei：Yes. I can see China. It’s red on the map. But where is New Zealand？ My grandparents will go there during the Spring Festival.

Li Ming：Well，can you see Australia？

It’s southeast of ❹ China. And New Zealand is southeast of Australia.

Wang Mei：Yes，I see it. And where is Canada？

Li Ming：It is north of the U.S.

Wang Mei：Oh，yes！ It is green on the map！ Danny is green，too.

知識點1

north，south，east and west都是方位詞。

四個方位詞的詞性及用法。

這四個方向詞＋ern構成形容詞，表示“…方的”，即：

point up向上指

eg：Please point up.請向上指。

辨析point at與point to

point at

指向較近的事物。指向某人時常有責備、抱怨之意。

You can’t point at your mother like that.你不能像那樣指著你媽媽。

point to

指向較遠的事物。指向某人時不含貶義。

He is pointing to a flying bird happily.他正高興地指著一隻飛翔的小鳥。

Nick ________ the building at the end of the street and says，“I work there.”

【點撥】 point up意為“向上指”，point to 意為“指向某物/人”。根據句意「尼克指向街盡頭的大樓…」可知此處用point to。又因主詞Nick是第三人稱單數，故謂語動詞用第三人稱單數。故選D。

知識點3

country/'kʌntrI/可數名詞，譯為「國家」。

eg：China is a big country.中國是一個大國。

country也可以翻譯為“鄉村”，此時country　常與the連用。

eg：My aunt raises pigs in the country.

我的姑姑在鄉下養豬。
