過去進行式與一般過去式的區別

一般過去式與過去進行式的動作都是發生在過去。一般過去式強調動作的發生或狀態的存在在過去；而過去進行式強調動作正在進行的延續性，其結構: was / were +v.-ing

試比較:

I got up at five the day before yesterday.

前天我是五點起床的。

He was painting the lab the whole day.

他一整天都在粉刷實驗室。

一般過去式的時間狀語主要有：

yesterday (morning, afternoon, evening), last night (week, month, year), ago, the day before yesterday, in 2003, just now, long, long ago等
