過去進行式

1. 概念: 表示過去某個時刻或過去一段式 間正在進行的動作。

2. 句子結構: 主詞 + was/were + doing sth. + 時間狀語

3. 時間狀語詞: at 5:00 yesterday afternoon, at that time, then 等連用, 或用另一個動作來表示過去的時間。如：

They were playing basketball when she arrived.

While they were playing basketball, she arrived.

過去進行式與一般過去式的區別

過去進行式著重描述當時正在持續進行的動作，它的特徵是：暫時，持續和未完成，強調過程；一般過去式表示發生過的動作或存在的狀態，即表示動作發生過，而且已經結束了，強調結果。

when, while

區別：

1. 由when引導的時間狀語子句，主句用過 去進行時，從句應用一般過去式；

由while引導的時間狀語子句，主句用一般過去時，從句應用過去進行式。

When the teacher came in, we were talking.

當此句改變主子句的位置時，則為：

While we were talking, the teacher came in.

2. 如果從句和主句的動作同時發生，兩句都用過去進行式的時候，多用while引導。如：

They were singing while we were dancing.
