1.The five rings stand for the five continents united together.

(1)stand for代表，象征，意味着。它多指代表某种抽象含义或指用字母、数字或符号来表示一个单词、名字或是某种概念的缩写的形式。

例：NBA stands for National Basketball Association.

NBA 代表(美国)国家篮球协会。

(2)continent n．洲；大陆。

例：There are seven continents and four oceans on the earth. 地球上有七大洲四大洋。

2．The Olympic motto, “Faster, Higher, Stronger”, stays the same for every Olympics.

stay the same意为“保持相同”。

例：My grandfather's eating habit stays the same all the time. 我爷爷的饮食习惯一直保持不变。

当三个或三个以上的人或物进行比较的时候，形容词和副词要用最高级。最高级后常用of或in短语来表示比较的范围。形容词最高级前一定要加the，而副词最高级前the可以省略。
