Cause: The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia opposed the independence of Kosovo

Process: NATO, led by the United States, intervened in the Kosovo crisis, bypassed the United Nations, and bombed Yugoslavia, resulting in the displacement of 1 million Kosovar people and the casualties of many innocent civilians.

Opponent: NATO VS Yugoslavia

Result: Yugoslav military and police withdraw from Kosovo.

Yugoslavia is located in the northwest of the Balkan Peninsula and has a very important strategic position. It is a serious obstacle to NATO's eastward expansion. Kosovo is an autonomous province in the Republic of Serbia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, with a population of 2 million, about 90% of which are ethnic Albanians. Under the influence of the drastic changes in Eastern Europe and the gradual disintegration of the Yugoslav Federation, the Albanians organized their own "parliament", established a "republic", elected a "president", and demanded independence from the Yugoslav Federation. The Kosovo crisis was caused by ethnic conflicts within the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and international influences.
