Western European Manor PPT, Part 4: Summary
The feudal manor was the basic economic and social organization in the countryside throughout the feudal era of Western Europe. It was formed and developed on the basis of the large feudal real estate. The king, nobles, and church were all lords of the manor, and the feudal manor was a self-sufficient, politically and religiously largely independent social entity. All its economic activities were basically to meet the daily consumption of manor lords and workers and the needs of population reproduction, and to produce almost all needed items. This form of social and economic organization was compatible with the level of productivity development in Western Europe at that time. In the late Middle Ages (after the 14th century), with the rapid development of commodity-currency relations and their penetration into the countryside, the self-sufficient natural economic foundation and serfdom began to disintegrate, and the feudal manor system began to decline.
