Uighur

"Uyghur" is the self-proclaimed name of the Uyghur people, which means "unity" or "union". The Uyghurs mainly live in the Kashgar and Hotan areas south of the Tianshan Mountains in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and in the Aksu and Korla areas. The rest live scattered in Ili and other places north of the Tianshan Mountains, and a small number live in Taoyuan, Changde and other places in Hunan. The Uyghur people have their own language. Uyghur language belongs to the Turkic language group of the Altaic language family; the writing system is Pinyin based on Arabic letters. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the use of a new script based on the Latin alphabet was promoted, and now the two scripts are used together.

Muqam is a comprehensive art form of the Uyghur people, which includes instrumental music, singing and dancing, and rap. Uyghur Muqam can be roughly divided into five types: the first is the Southern Xinjiang Muqam popular in Kashgar, Kuqa, Aksu, and Yarkand; the second is the Hami Muqam popular in Hami and Yiwu areas. Muqam; the third type is Muqam popular in Turpan; the fourth type is Ili Muqam; and the fifth type is Dolan Muqam. Except for the Muqam in Turpan, which has 9 sets, the others have 12 sets, totaling 57 sets.
