Steps to observe big trees

1. What does the tree crown look like when viewed from a distance? (Write down in complete sentences) What is the approximate height of the tree? (The height of the tree is about several stories high)

2. How about going under a big tree and using your eyes to see the surface of the trunk? (Skin color, cracks, burrs, small insects...) How does it feel when you touch it? How thick is it to be held in a hand or wrapped with a rope?

The tree we observed is very tall and grows beside the east wall of the campus. The trunk is so thick that it can be hugged with both arms.

The bark is gray-brown and feels very rough. There are moss growing on the trunk and ants crawling on it.

The branches are lush, the leaves are shaped like eggs and smell fragrant, and there are dark red fruits growing on the branches.

We asked the teacher that this tree is called camphor tree and has been growing in the school for decades.
