1. Demonstrative pronouns

2. When answering questions with this/that and these/those as subjects, it and they are often used to replace this/that and these/those respectively. e.g.:

—What's this/that? What is this/that?

—It's a ruler. It's a ruler.

3. When introducing people or things together, say this/these first, then that/those.

[Note] This is, these are, and those are cannot be abbreviated, but that is can be abbreviated to that's.

2. Usage of who

It is mainly used to ask who someone is, and is often used to guide special questions. e.g.:

Who's she? Who's he? Who're they?

These are special questions introduced by who. Who is a special question word, meaning "who".

The basic sentence pattern is: Who+is/are+subject (person)? It means "Who is...?" The commonly used answer is He/She is.../They are... eg:

—They are Tom and Jim. They are Tom and Jim.

—He is Dale. He is Dale.
