Author profile
Selma Lagerlof (1858-1940) was an outstanding Swedish female writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1909. She loved listening to stories and reading since she was a child, and determined to be a writer. After growing up, she worked as a teacher in a small town for ten years. While teaching, she began literary creation and wrote many excellent short stories. "The Adventures of Niels Riding the Goose" is her only full-length fairy tale written for children, and it later became a treasure of world literature and art. Because of Lagerlöf's great achievements, she was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Society in 1914. In Sweden, there is one of the most important children's literature awards, which is named after Niels.
