4. Summary of the full text

What does this story teach us?

center:

This article uses the story of two monks from Shu who went to the South China Sea to tell us that determination depends on human beings.

Sichuan, known as Shu in ancient times, was originally an isolated paradise and very prosperous. However, due to the complex terrain, it was very difficult to visit. Li Bai once wrote a poem: The road to Shu is difficult, and it is difficult to reach the blue sky.

The South China Sea refers to Putuo Mountain on today's Zhoushan Island in Zhejiang Province. Putuo Mountain is surrounded by the sea and is known as the Land of Sea and Sky Buddhism and Penglai Wonderland. It is one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in my country. According to legend, Nanhai Guanyin first preached the Dharma and saved all sentient beings here. This has always been a place that monks yearn for.

Let’s talk about it:

Why didn't the rich monk go to Nanhai and why did the poor monk go to Chengdu?

The poor monk has firm determination, the courage to overcome all difficulties, full confidence and strong perseverance.

Expand and extend:

"The poor man returned from the South China Sea" and told the rich man about it. What did the rich man think and do after hearing this?

The rich also regret their mistakes. Over the next year, the rich man wanted to go to the South China Sea and said, "My bottle and one bowl are enough." The next year, the rich man also returned from the South China Sea.
