1. Silkworm babies hatched
The black silkworms that have just hatched from the eggs are called "ant silkworms" and are covered with fine hairs. The hairs will disappear after about two days.
2. Silkworm babies grow up
Silkworms feed on mulberry leaves. As they continue to eat mulberry leaves, their bodies turn white, and after a while they begin to peel.
When the skin is peeling, it lasts for about a day, and it is like sleeping without eating or moving. This is called "sleep".
3. Silkworm babies spin silk
After one molt, it is the second instar larvae. She sheds her skin once, which means she is one year older. She has to shed her skin four times in total, and she becomes a fifth-instar larvae before she begins to spin silk and form a cocoon.
Silkworm life cycle
The ant silkworm hatched from the silkworm egg is the beginning of the silkworm's life cycle. When the silkworm reaches a certain stage of growth and development, it will form a cocoon and turn into a pupa. When the pupa develops into a moth, the moth will crawl out of the cocoon, and then the silkworm moths will mate and give birth. The death of eggs and silkworm moths is the end of silkworm life.
A silkworm’s life has gone through:
Birth--Growth--Reproduction--Death
This whole process is the life cycle of silkworm. The life cycle of silkworm is about 56 days.
What conditions affect the healthy growth of silkworms?
Food, temperature, humidity, harmful gases, diseases, etc. will all affect the growth of silkworms.
