About the Author

Shen Congwen (1902~1988), a famous modern Chinese writer, historian, and archaeologist, was originally named Shen Yuehuan and was a native of Fenghuang County, Hunan Province. His works are full of strong personality and local flavor of western Hunan, and are full of poetry and painting. His representative works include "Border Town" and so on. Shen Congwen published more than 30 short story collections including "Stone Boat" and "Congwen Ziji" and 6 novels including "Border Town" and "Long River" throughout his life.
