424÷4=106 (square centimeters)
106÷5=21.2 (cm)
If a cuboid with a length of 12 cm, a width of 9 cm and a height of 5 cm is cut into 2 cuboids, what is the maximum total surface area of the 2 cuboids in square centimeters? How many square centimeters is it at least?
Solution: The total surface area is at most
(12×9+12×5+9×5)×2+12×9×2
=(108+60+45)×2+216
=213×2+216
=642 (square centimeters)
