Creative background

The famous violin solo "Summer Night" was composed by composer Yang Shanle in 1952. The author was a student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music at the time. He loved Hunan hometown folk tunes and "ground flower drum" music since he was a child. He felt homesick after being away from his hometown for a long time. He expressed his nostalgia for his hometown by describing the beautiful night scenery of the water town in the south of the Yangtze River in summer.

Among them, not only the music of "ground flower drum" is used as the material, but also the playing method of a large barrel of its accompaniment instrument is transplanted to the violin, which highlights the characteristics of waterside music.

Glorious History 1

It premiered at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music student audition concert in 1953. It was later included in the "Violin Solo Collection" (Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, 1953). In 1956, after its performance at the First National Music Week, the piece was selected as a violin teaching material by various music schools, and was later included in the seventh volume of "Selected Violin Pieces" (Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, 1960).

This song has been played and introduced many times and spread to Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Soviet Union, Britain, the United States, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asian countries. The music score was included in "Selected Violin Music from 1949 to 1979" (People's Music Publishing House, 1980). Because of its melodious melody and varied emotions, it has achieved great success and has become one of the most familiar violin solo pieces for Chinese music lovers.
