Battle of Guiling
Surround Wei and rescue Zhao
The siege of Wei and the rescue of Zhao took place in 354 BC. Wei general Pang Juan led an army of 80,000 to besiege Handan, the capital of Zhao. The next year, Zhao State asked Qi State for help. King Qi ordered Sun Bin to lead an army to relieve the siege of Handan, but Sun Bin led an army to invade Wei State. This was the policy adopted by Sun Bin to avoid the truth and attack the fictitious, putting the Wei army in a passive position. The Wei state was empty inside and the capital was in danger. Pang Juan hurriedly withdrew his troops from Zhao and returned to save himself. When the exhausted Wei army arrived at Guiling, they were severely defeated by the Qi army that had been ambushing here. Wei general Pang Juan was captured alive and was soon captured. Returned to the country and became a general again. Sun Bin's clever plan was to achieve the greatest success with the least effort. The battle of besieging Wei and rescuing Zhao has since become a classic battle example, which has been studied, used for reference and praised by people for thousands of years.
Battle of Maling
In 341 BC, the Battle of Maling took place between Qi and Wei. The state of Qi still used Sun Bin as its military advisor, and the state of Wei sent Pang Juan to lead 100,000 troops to fight. Sun Bin took the initiative to retreat and adopted a stove reduction strategy (on the first day, the military stoves left in the withdrawn camp were enough for 100,000 people to eat; on the second day, the military stoves left behind were enough for 50,000 people to eat; on the third day, only 50,000 people could eat. Enough to feed 30,000 people). Pang Juan observed the changes in the army and thought that the Qi army was fleeing in large numbers. So he underestimated the enemy and advanced quickly, chasing him to Maling. It was already dark at that time. Wei Jun lit a fire and saw a tree with the words "Pang Juan died under this tree" written on it. At this time, the Qi army fired thousands of arrows, and the main force of the Wei army was wiped out. Pang Juan drew his sword and killed himself. From then on, the state of Wei was greatly weakened, the state of Qi became stronger, and Sun Bin became famous all over the world.
