Description
"Single Cell Organisms" PPT courseware
Part One: Think about it and discuss it
Euglena is a cell, why can it live independently?
Euglena is also a cell. It has the same basic structure as human cells - cytoplasm, nucleus, and cell membrane, but it also has different characteristics from human cells in structure and function.
Although Euglena has no organs and systems, its cells differentiate into different structures with different physiological functions and can independently complete various life activities. For example, flagella that can move can produce organic matter through photosynthesis through chloroplasts when they are shiny. When there is no light, they can obtain nutrients from the outside through the surface membrane.
The existence of these structures helps Euglena live independently.
Single-celled organisms PPT, part 2: definition of single-celled animals
What is a single-celled organism?
There are also organisms in the biosphere that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Their bodies have only one cell, called unicellular organisms.
Characteristics: Small individual size.
Unicellular organisms are composed of only a single cell, and all life activities are completed in one cell. They usually live in water, and some are parasitic in our bodies.
Basic characteristics of living things:
All living organisms need nutrition, breathing, excretion, reproduction, stress, etc.
Single-celled organisms PPT, Part 3: Structure and life of single-celled organisms
1 nutrition method
There are no chloroplasts in the body and cannot produce organic matter. It feeds on bacteria and tiny phytoplankton. The cilia swing → bacteria and tiny phytoplankton enter the body through the oral groove → form food bubbles → flow with the cytoplasm → the food is digested, and the indigestible residue is excreted from the anus.
2 Breathing and excretion
The surface film absorbs oxygen dissolved in water → decomposes organic matter in the body → releases energy for use in life activities
Carbon dioxide and some nitrogen-containing waste products produced in the body are excreted through the surface membrane.
Excess water and nitrogen-containing waste in the body are collected through the collection tube and then discharged from the body through the telescopic bubble.
3 responses to stimuli
Stress: Paramecium has the ability to move towards favorable stimuli and avoid harmful stimuli. We call this characteristic of it stress.
(1) Salt is an unfavorable stimulus to Paramecium, so the Paramecium on the side with salt particles has to escape and swim to the culture droplet without salt particles.
(2) Meat juice is a favorable stimulus for Paramecium, so the Paramecium on the side without meat juice will swim into the culture droplet with meat juice.
(3) Paramecium is an organism that can respond to external stimuli.
Single-celled organisms PPT, Part 4: The relationship between single-celled organisms and humans
1. Beneficial aspects to human beings:
A. Provide natural bait for fish
B. Purify sewage
2. Bad aspects for humans:
A. Can invade the bodies of humans and animals and cause diseases.
B. Can cause red tide and harm fisheries
