Description
"Scientific Exploration: Current in Series and Parallel Circuits" Understanding Circuits PPT Courseware 4
Water flowing through the turbine causes the turbine to rotate
Current passes through the filament, causing the light bulb to glow
What do the lights on and off in the two circuits mean?
1. The strength of the current
What do you think is the difference between the current running on an electric locomotive and a mobile phone?
1. Current (I): A physical quantity that represents the strength of the current.
2. Unit: Ampere, abbreviated as Ampere, symbol is A.
Common units of current:
Milliamp (mA) 1 mA=10-3 A
Microampere (mA) 1 mA=10-6 A
2. Measurement of current
1. Ammeter: An instrument for measuring current.
Get to know the ammeter
circuit symbol for ammeter
2. Connection of ammeter:
(1) The ammeter must be connected in series with the electrical appliance being measured.
(2) Current must flow in from the positive terminal and flow out from the negative terminal.
(3) The measuring range must be selected correctly.
(4) It is not allowed to connect the ammeter directly to the two poles of the power supply!
Use of ammeter
1. To measure the current in a certain part of the circuit, the ammeter must be connected in series to this part of the circuit.
How to connect an ammeter when measuring the current through a small light bulb
2. The current must flow into the ammeter from the "ten" terminal and out of the ammeter from the "one" terminal.
3. It is absolutely not allowed to connect the ammeter directly to the two poles of the power supply without using electrical appliances (short circuit), otherwise the ammeter will burn out quickly.
4. Large first and then small: try a large range first, such as the indication of an ammeter.
Within the small range, use the small range again. The measured current cannot exceed the range of the ammeter (test touch)
think about it
During the experiment, the following situations were found during the test, and the causes and solutions to the problems were analyzed.
1. Pointer reverse deflection:
Answer: It may be that the positive and negative terminals are connected reversely and should be reconnected.
2. The forward deflection of the pointer is too large:
Answer: This is because the range selection is too small and should be changed to a larger range.
practice
1. Which of the following household appliances passes the largest current during normal operation ( ).
A. TV set b. Ordinary fluorescent lamp
C. Household electric fan D. household electric iron
2. In the circuit shown in the figure, ammeter A1 measures ______ current, and A2 measures ______ current.
3. What is shown in the figure is the result of two measurements of the same circuit. Picture A uses the ______ measurement range, and the indication is ____A; Picture B uses the _______ measurement range, and the indication is ____A.
4. As shown in the figure is a physical connection diagram of a student using an ammeter to measure the current passing through a small light bulb. The three errors are:
⑴The power supply is short-circuited (the ammeter is directly connected to the two poles of the power supply)
⑵Ammeter and lamp are connected in parallel
⑶The positive and negative terminals of the ammeter are connected reversely
