Rhetoric is everywhere PPT, part 2: What is rhetoric

Narrow sense: using figures of speech to enhance the expression of language.

In a broad sense: processing, collating and organizing language materials to make language expression more vivid and vivid.

It includes not only figures of speech, but also word refining and sentence refining. Lianzi means selecting and matching words; Lianyu focuses on sentence selection.

Duality, parallelism, hypothetical question, rhetorical question

Quotes, puns, synaesthesia, word imitations

True, repetition, loop, intertextuality

Rhetoric is everywhere PPT, the third part: knowledge sorting

Dual pairs, connected words, overlapping words; changes in oblique and oblique words; rhyme; parallelism, repetition, repetition, looping, etc.

Word Rhetoric: Word Selection and Refinement

Sentence rhetoric: sentence selection, combination and refinement

Sentence order adjustment (inversion, etc.); sentence combination (whole sentences, long and short sentences, etc.); sentence pattern selection (rhetorical questions, hypothetical questions, etc.)

Loop: A figure of speech that organizes the sentences before and after it into a shuttle-like loop to express the organic connection between different things.

Rhetoric is Everywhere PPT, Part 4: Speech Rhetoric

All rhetorical methods that make sentences rhythmic and beautiful. Through the deployment of voices, the voices are neat, harmonious, rhythmic and melodic.

Commonly used methods: parallelism, repetition, truth, parallelism, overlapping words, double tone words, overlapping words, rhyme...

1. Adjusting syllables means appropriately selecting words or phrases with different syllables to make the syllables even and neat, and improve the expression of the language. (Such as double tones, overlapping rhymes, etc.)

Above the twists and turns of the lotus pond, you can see the fields of leaves. The leaves are high out of the water, like the skirts of a graceful dancer.

(Zhu Ziqing's "Moonlight over the Lotus Pond")

The use of a large number of overlapping syllables not only vividly describes the scene in front of you, but also strengthens the tone, stretches the literary style, and gives people a harmonious aesthetic feeling.

2. Coordinating the tone is to use the tone changes to make the language form a musical beauty of ups and downs.

He raised his eyebrows coldly and pointed at thousands of people,

I bow my head and become a Ruzi Niu.

(Lu Xun's "Seven Rules: Self-Mockery")

3. Adjusting rhyme is to regularly use words with the same or similar finals at the end of the previous and next sentences or every other sentence to give people a phonological loop, harmonious and pleasant musical beauty. For example, Cui Hao's "Yellow Crane Tower"

People in the past had gone there by Yellow Crane, and the Yellow Crane Tower was vacant here.

The yellow crane is gone and never returns, and the white clouds remain empty for thousands of years.

Qingchuan is full of Hanyang trees, and the grass is luxuriant and Parrot Island is green.

Where is the Rimu Township Pass? The smoke on the Yanbo River makes people sad.

Rhetoric is everywhere PPT, part 5: rhetoric of words

Choose and refine the words you use.

1. Similar to the ancients’ “Lian Zi”;

2. Extraordinary word combinations;

3. The use of figures of speech such as metaphor, personification, imitation, euphemism, hyperbole, metonymy, pun and other figures of speech.

Example analysis of word rhetoric:

Think carefully and appreciate the beauty of adding braille to the following sentences:

1. The spring breeze turns green again (passing, arriving, filling) the south bank of the Yangtze River - Wang Anshi·"Boarding at Guazhou"

Green: It has both dynamic and static beauty. It turns the invisible feeling of spring breeze into a visual image, making people feel full of vitality.

2. The feeling of spring on the red apricot branches (strong, deep) - "Spring in the Jade House" by Song Qi

Nao: Use synaesthesia to communicate visual images and auditory images, and your eyes will feel like bees flying and butterflies dancing, and your eyes will be full of spring.

Rhetoric is Everywhere PPT, Part Six: Sentence Rhetoric

Enhance language expression through the selection and deployment of sentence patterns.

Long sentences and short sentences, whole sentences and loose sentences, affirmative sentences and negative sentences, declarative sentences and rhetorical questions, active sentences and passive sentences, sequential sentences and inverted sentences.

Sentence rhetoric examples

1. Long and short sentences

The same meaning can be expressed by a long sentence with a complex structure or a set of short sentences with a simple structure, but the expression effect is different.

Long sentences appear detailed and rigorous, while short sentences appear concise and flexible. To explain a truth, use long sentences more often, and to describe facts, use short sentences more often.

Generally speaking, long sentences are more difficult to use; and, if the same meaning can be expressed in short sentences, it will be easier for readers to understand. Compare the following two sentences.

A. The death of Mr. Mei Lanfang, a master of the Peking Opera role at the age of 11 and a native of Jiangsu Province, was born in Beijing. He studied opera at the age of eight and appeared on stage at the age of 11, which shocked the whole of China and even the world.

B. Mr. Mei Lanfang, a master of the Peking Opera role, was originally from Jiangsu and was born in Beijing. He studied opera at the age of eight and took the stage at the age of eleven. His death shocked the whole of China and even the world.

A. It is a long single sentence with a long attributive before the subject. The sentence seems protracted and the meaning is not expressed clearly enough.

B. Use a set of short sentences to express it so that people can understand it at a glance. Therefore, use long sentences where long sentences should be used. Where long or short sentences can be used, it is best to use short sentences more often.

2. Regular sentences and modified sentences

When we usually speak, the subject usually comes first, the predicate comes after, the attributive and adverbial come first, and the modified central word comes after. Sentences composed according to this word order are called regular sentences. Sometimes in a certain language environment, in order to meet the needs of expression, the general word order can be changed to a special word order, that is, the predicate is said first, then the subject, or the central word is said first, then the attributive and adverbial. Sentences composed according to this special word order are called modified sentences, also called inverted sentences. Use modified sentences mainly to emphasize the predicate or modifier.

For example:

A. Stir up, wind! Roar, thunder! Shine, lightning!

B. Behind Lao Tongbao, there is also a large mulberry forest, short and quiet.

C. When he finished breakfast, the spring rain started to fall again, and it was pattering.

The three sentences of A all have the predicate first and the subject last, which plays the role of emphasizing the predicate;

B moves the attributive "short, quiet" after the central word, which plays the role of emphasizing the attributive;

C moves the adverbial "pattering on the ground" to the end of the sentence to highlight the adverbial.

As can be seen from the above examples, the use of modified sentences often emphasizes a certain component, and the tone is stronger than that of regular sentences.

Rhetoric is Everywhere PPT, Part 7: Practice

1. Start the first sentence with "Marx" and change the following long sentence into a sentence composed of 4 short sentences.

The proletarian revolutionary Marx was a genius who received gifts of both talent and suffering from God and was good at interpreting his talents to the extreme with a huge pen.

2. (Liaoning Volume) Begin with "One of the areas where modern archeology began early in my country" and reorganize the underlined parts of the following paragraphs into a long sentence with coherent semantics. The original meaning must not be changed, and a small number of words may be added or deleted, but punctuation marks cannot be used in the sentence. (4 points)

The ancient culture in Western Liaoning is mainly concentrated in the western Liaohe and Daling river basins, and has spread to the Beijing, Tianjin and Tang regions. This area is an important area for exploring the origin and development of civilization in the north and south of Yanshan. It is also one of the areas where modern archeology began earlier in my country. In 1921, archaeologists excavated the Shaguotun site in Jinxi, and in 1930 someone conducted an investigation into the prehistoric culture of the Xiliao River Basin...

One of the areas where modern archeology began earlier in my country is ______.

3. The following sentence is about the impact and results caused by continuous heavy snow. How should this sentence be written to highlight the fierce momentum of continuous heavy snowfall?

After thirty-six consecutive hours of heavy snow, the entire Northeast was covered in snow; temperatures dropped to the lowest point in fifteen years.

Rhetoric is Everywhere PPT, Part 8: Classroom Training

Read the following passage and analyze: What rhetorical methods are used in each sentence?

① Zhangjiajie is definitely qualified to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, if someone translates her beauty into a universal language.

② Incredible craftsmanship and unique luck. ③In other mountains, people are holding hands and arm in arm affectionately. Only in Zhangjiajie, they maintain their independence from each other, and no one wants to see the other. ④ No matter how steep or dangerous the peaks elsewhere are, they can still be stepped on, but Zhangjiajie, with its precipitous cliffs and collapsed walls, refuses all toe prints from apes to humans. ⑤ Every rock peak has exposed veins and bloody veins sticking straight into the sky. ⑥ And in every gap on the top of the mountain, every foot of barren soil, there must be green pines or green cypresses, with pavilions and pavilions like a canopy of trees, smiling proudly in the world. ⑦The silver cliff and green crown look like an enlarged Suzhou bonsai when viewed from a distance. ⑧The winding gullies and streams add to the infinite emptiness and greenery. ⑨The wind blows, whistling and chanting; the clouds spread, and there are thousands of charms.
