RevisionPPT, the third part: grammar training

simple sentence

A simple sentence refers to a sentence that contains only one subject (or coordinating subject) and one predicate (or coordinating predicate). Simple sentences are divided into five basic sentence patterns.

Test point 1: Subject + predicate (intransitive verb) (S + Vi)

It can be simply called a subject-predicate structure, in which the predicate verb is intransitive.

eg: He swims. He swims.

Common intransitive verbs include come, go, happen, laugh, sleep, stay, swim, walk, work, etc.

Don't make any noise. Tom ________ now.

A． sleepB. is sleeping

C． slept D. sleeps

Test point 2: subject + predicate (transitive verb) + object (S + Vt + O))

It can be referred to as the subject-predicate-object structure. In this sentence pattern, the predicate verb can be followed by a noun, pronoun, gerund or verb infinitive as an object. Some intransitive verbs can be treated as transitive verbs by adding a preposition after them. In this case, they can also be followed by objects.

eg: We speak English.

We speak English.

Do you _____________ in your spare time?

Test point 3: Subject + linking verb + predicate (S + LinkV + P)

The predicates in this sentence pattern can be nouns, pronouns, adjectives, etc. Commonly used linking verbs include be, feel, taste, smell, look, get, become, turn, etc.

eg: Your mobile phone looks very nice.

Your phone looks beautiful.
