1. If 5 pears weigh 1 kilogram, these pears weigh approximately ( ) kilograms.

5 pears are about 1 kilogram. We can subtract 5 by 5. How many 5s can be subtracted from 24 is how many 1 kilograms there are. Subtract four 5's and that's 4 kilograms, leaving 4 pears, which is nearly 1 kilogram.
