In early 1928, Comrade Xia Minghan was arrested by the Kuomintang reactionaries due to the traitor's betrayal.

In prison, he sternly refused the enemy's inducement to surrender. He resolutely said: "I can't do it. I can sacrifice my life and never give up my faith." He died generously and wrote this poem before execution.

Xia Minghan's story

Xia Minghan was detained in prison. The enemies used various means to get Xia Minghan to reveal the underground organization of the Chinese Communist Party, but they got nothing. When the Kuomintang reactionaries had no choice but to deal with Xia Minghan, they decided to conduct one last interrogation. This interrogation was very carefully arranged, and the entire interrogation room was filled with an eerie atmosphere of terror. The presiding judge was a senior officer of the Kuomintang. This man had a sinister face and raised eyebrows, giving him a completely menacing look. The interrogation begins. Xia Minghan walked in calmly, holding his head high and glaring angrily at the evil presiding judge. The presiding officer asked: "What is your surname?" Xia Minghan replied: "Dong." "Your surname is clearly Xia, why did you say your surname was Dong! It's nonsense!" "I was speaking according to the logic of the Kuomintang. Your logic is upside down. Black and white. To confuse right and wrong, you call murder a mercy, and call treason a patriotism. I also used your logic to call the surname "Xia" instead of "Winter". This is called fighting fire with fire."
