Five functions:

(1) Supply and store heat energy

(2) Protect body tissues

(3) Supply essential fatty acids

(4) Promote the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins

(5) Maintain body temperature

Identify nutrients in food

Identification of proteins

1. Light the alcohol lamp;

2. If you burn food on an alcohol lamp, you will smell a smell like burning hair.

Protein smells like burnt hair when burned over fire.

Identification of fat

1. Apply cooking oil to the white paper.

2. Squeeze and slide fat or peanuts on the white paper.

Fatty foods can leave grease stains on white paper.

Identification of starch

1. Add a drop of iodine into the starch paste and you will see the starch turn blue or blue-purple.

2. Drop iodine on different foods and observe the experimental phenomena.

If the food turns blue after being sprinkled with iodine, it indicates that the food contains starch.
