Qiu Shaoyun was born in Tongliang County, Sichuan Province in 1931. Joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army on December 25, 1949 (18 years old), and joined the Chinese People's Volunteer Army on March 25, 1951 (20 years old). On October 12, 1952 (21 years old), he died gloriously in the battle on the "391" highland northeast of Cheolwon, south of Pingkang, North Korea. On November 6 of the same year, the leadership of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army decided to posthumously award first-class merit, and on June 1, 1953, he was awarded the title of "First-Class Hero". A committee of the Volunteer Army of the Communist Party of China ratified him as a member of the Communist Party of China. In June 1953, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea awarded him the title of "Hero of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea", as well as the Gold Star Medal and the First-Class National Flag Medal.
