Small Animals Over the Winter PPT, Part Six: Expansion and Extension

The next spring, the frog, the swallow and the bee gathered together again. What will they say? What will they do?

The next spring, the frog ( ) emerged from the soil and came to the agreed place early to wait for its good friend. ( ) The little bee came out of the hive and met the frog. Soon, the little swallow ( ) flew back from the south. The three good friends sang and danced happily together.

Animals have ways to survive the winter

1. Both squirrels and hares need to warm their nests and find food reserves such as pine cones, hazelnuts, and acorns. They do not hibernate in winter. Also, they have to molt, and they have to change their fur in winter which is different from that in summer.

2. Snakes hibernate collectively. They hug each other and hibernate together. When they wake up in the spring, they can keep warm and increase the temperature. If they spend the winter alone, they will freeze to death. Like frogs, they are cold-blooded animals and gathering together can reduce mortality.

3. Bears hibernate because it is difficult to find food in winter. In autumn, they eat a lot and make themselves fat. They rely on fat to provide nutrients in winter. However, they will wake up during hibernation.
