Authoritative PPT Summary
Introduction to the famous book "Talk about Beauty" PPT
Contents of the first part: Introduction to the author:
Zhu Guangqian (1897-1986) was born in Tongcheng, Anhui. Famous Chinese esthetician and literary theorist. Since 1925, he has studied in Britain, France and other countries, and obtained a doctorate. He returned to China in 1933 and served as professor at Peking University, Sichuan University and Wuhan University. During his lifetime, he was a professor of the Department of Spanish at Peking University and the honorary president of the All-China Aesthetics Society. He devoted his life to the teaching and research of aesthetics. Important works include "Psychology of Literature and Art", "History of Western Aesthetics", "Psychology of Tragedy", etc., and there are many translations of aesthetic works in the world.
From the 1930s to the 1940s, Zhu Guangqian believed that in aesthetic experience, what appears in the mind is just intuition, and what is connected to things is just an image. Therefore, the aesthetic attitude is different from the scientific and practical attitude. It does not involve concepts, practicality, etc., but only concentrates on the appreciation of an isolated image of an object. After 1950, the theory of the unity of subjectivity and objectivity was put forward, which believed that beauty must take objective things as the image of the object and then mention the beauty. In the 1960s, he emphasized the Marxist practical perspective, regarded subjectivity as the subject "person" of practice, and believed that the objective world and subjective initiative were unified in practice.
Talking about beauty PPT, part 2: chapter study
The main part of the book "On Beauty" is divided into fifteen chapters.
1. Beauty is the most valuable aspect of things, and the experience of beauty is the most valuable aspect in life. ——"Three attitudes we have towards an ancient pine - practical, scientific and aesthetic"
2. There is a distance between beauty and real life. To see the beauty of something itself, you must look at it at an appropriate distance. ——""Those who are in authority are confused, but those who are onlookers are clear"——The distance between art and real life"
3. The so-called aesthetic experience is actually nothing more than the back-and-forth flow of my taste and the taste of objects during concentration. ...The depth of meaning of objects is closely related to human nature. Deep people see things that are also deep; shallow people see things that are shallow. ...Everyone's world is formed by everyone's self-expansion. Appreciation contains some creativity. ...Although the direct purpose of aesthetic experience is not to cultivate one's temperament, it does have the effect of cultivating one's temperament. With beautiful images imprinted on your heart and often infiltrated by beautiful images, you can naturally have fewer dirty thoughts. ——"You are not a fish, how can you know the happiness of fish?"——Humanization of the universe"
4. Aesthetic experience is intuitive rather than introspective. Since we forget ourselves in concentration, we naturally cannot feel whether we enjoy the image we are looking at, or reflect on whether the image evokes pleasure. The more intensively we appreciate a work of art, the less we feel that we are appreciating it, and the less we feel that the feeling we have is pleasant. If I feel pleasure, I change from intuition to introspection, just like looking for a shadow with a lamp. When the lamp goes out, the aesthetic attitude is lost. ——"The Statue of the Greek Goddess and the Bright-blooded English Girl-Beauty and Pleasure"
Talking about Beauty PPT, the third part: Thoughts after reading Zhu Guangqian's "Talk about Beauty"
1. Our three attitudes towards an ancient pine - practical, scientific and aesthetic
In this paragraph, the author talks about people's different attitudes towards things, or that everyone has a different starting point and a different standpoint from which to observe things. The same thing will have its own unique psychological or visual reaction in people with different mentalities. . A timber merchant looks at an ancient pine with a commercial mentality, a scientist looks at it with a research mentality, and a painter looks at it with an appreciation mentality. The ancient pine reflects three effects in the eyes of different people. Only the painter does not look at it from the perspective of "use". Viewed from a different perspective, but as Mr. Zhu said: "Doing nothing but doing something". While appreciating it, it also gave the artist a perfect concept of the ancient pine in his inner world.
Beautiful things require people to look at and think about them with an aesthetic eye and an appreciative mentality. If we only talk about practicality, then beauty is the least practical experience. But if human history is endless, the only things that can really touch the depths of our hearts are those works of art that give beautiful emotions. They are everywhere in the deep night sky shining like guiding stars, guiding people's souls, Purify people's minds.
To quote Mr. Zhu again: "Beauty is the most valuable aspect of things, and the experience of beauty is the most valuable aspect of life."
2. “The authorities are confused, but the onlookers are clear” - the distance between art and real life
As the saying goes: "Distance creates beauty." In fact, Mr. Zhu clearly pointed out the distance between art and life here. When the real world is covered with fog, snow or rain, it is easy for people to associate it with something else. This state creates a distance between the real world and you and me, thus creating poetic and aesthetic conceptions throughout the ages. The so-called: art comes from life and is higher than life. This should also be the reason. Art is a subjective taste and feeling, but there is some objective control and design in it. Being too close to reality can easily make people utilitarian, and being too subjective is not easy for people to understand. After all, art is for people to appreciate.
3. "You are not a fish, how can you know the happiness of fish?" - Humanization of the universe
In this paragraph, Mr. Zhu quoted from Zhuangzi. A short story in "Autumn Water" illustrates the principle of people's aesthetic experience, that is: aesthetic experience is the back and forth flow of people's taste and the posture of objects. People's cognition is sometimes judged by people's subjective taste. Then this kind of subjective taste to judge things is "empathy", mapping your own emotions such as joy, anger, sorrow, and joy onto the things around you. This empathy is closely related to the experience of beauty.
