"Viewing the Sea" PPT courseware 7
Cao Cao (155-220), also known as Jili, also known as Mengde and nicknamed Ahao, was a native of Qiaojun, Peiguo (now Bozhou City, Anhui Province). A military strategist, politician and poet in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Cao Cao's poems are almost all Yuefu poems, and his representative work is "Dan Ge Xing".
"Viewing the Sea" is selected from "Collection of Yuefu Poems". The title was added by later generations. It was originally the first chapter of the old Yuefu poem "Stepping out of Xiamen Xing".
The other three chapters of "Stepping out of Xiamen" are "Winter in October", "The Soils Are Different", and "The Turtle Sustains Longevity". It is an earlier work in the history of Chinese poetry that mainly writes about natural scenery.
Cao Cao and his sons Cao Pi and Cao Zhi. Because of their political status and literary achievements, they had a great influence on the literary world during the "Jian'an" period, so they were collectively called the "Three Cao" by later generations.

"Guan Cang Hai" is a famous poem written by Cao Cao. This is a lyrical poem describing the scenery. By describing the momentum of the sea and the universe, it shows the poet's broad mind and heroic spirit, and expresses his ambition to unify China and make contributions.
In 207 AD, Cao Cao personally led his army northward to conquer Wuhuan (today's eastern Liaoning Province). On the way, he passed Jieshi Mountain. As the battle was about to begin, Cao Cao, as the commander-in-chief, climbed the Jieshi Mountain that Qin Shihuang and Han Wu Emperor had also climbed. Facing the surging sea, he was moved by the scene and wrote this magnificent poem.
