Earth's movement

What people call "the rotation of the earth" today is just describing the attitude of the earth itself around the sun. It rotates once every 24 hours relative to the position of the sun; it rotates once every 23 hours and 56 minutes relative to the position of the stars. One week is the basis of the current time scalar, the origin of the length of the solar day and the sidereal day, and the reason why morning, day, evening and night appear on the earth. The concept of "earth rotation" reveals the natural phenomenon that "the earth is rotating". In fact, Philolaus, Heisitas and others in ancient Greece have already proposed the conjecture of the earth's rotation. In the Chinese Warring States Period, the book "Zi Zi" has a discussion of "the sky is relaxed on the left and the earth is wide on the right". The confirmation of this natural phenomenon and its acceptance by people came after Copernicus proposed the heliocentric theory in 1543. The earth does not rotate for no reason, it has no internal power! The reason why the earth rotates once in 24 hours is because it is revolving around the sun at a speed of more than 100,000 kilometers per hour, and encounters the side thrust of the solar wind on the way, causing plasma westerly circulation at high altitudes. The high-altitude westerly winds in turn push the westerly and directional westerly winds on the ground. The ocean currents flowing eastward push the earth to rotate from west to east. The total thrust of the solar wind on the Earth's plasma sphere is 530 million Newtons per second.

(1) Rotation motion

①The direction of the earth's rotation is from west to east along the latitude line. When viewed from above the North Pole, the Earth's rotation is counterclockwise; when viewed from above the South Pole, the Earth's rotation is clockwise.

②The period of the Earth's rotation refers to the time interval required for the Earth to rotate once. Due to the different reference points chosen, the period of the Earth's rotation is also different. Sidereal day: The time required for the Earth to rotate 360° is 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds, which is a sidereal day. That is, the time interval between a certain star in the sky passing through the midheaven on a certain ground twice in a row. Solar day: The time it takes for the earth to rotate 360°59′ in a 24-hour day, which is the time interval between the sun passing through the midheaven on a certain ground twice in a row.

It can be seen that the sidereal day is the true period of the earth's rotation. The solar day is 3 minutes and 56 seconds longer than the sidereal day because the earth is rotating around the sun at the same time.

③The speed of the earth’s rotation

Angular velocity: The angle a point on the earth rotates around the earth's axis in unit time. Except for the earth's north and south poles, which have no angular speed, the rotation angular speed of any point on the earth's surface is the same, about 15° per hour and 1° per minute.

Linear velocity: The arc length (distance) traveled by a point on the earth's surface in unit time. The equatorial latitude coil is the longest and has the fastest linear speed of rotation (1670 km/h). At 60° north and south latitude, the linear speed of rotation shrinks to half that at the equator. To the north and south poles, the linear velocity of rotation is zero.

(2) Revolutionary motion

① Direction of the Earth’s revolution: The Earth’s revolution moves counterclockwise from west to east.

②The orbit of the earth: The orbit of the earth around the sun is an ellipse, and the sun is located at one focus of the ellipse. The point closest to the sun in the elliptical orbit of the earth is called perihelion; the point farthest from the sun is called aphelion. The average distance between the sun and the earth is 150 million kilometers.

③The period of the Earth’s revolution: The time it takes for the Earth to move along its orbit is one sidereal year, which is 365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds.

④The speed of the earth’s revolution

Angular velocity: The Earth moves eastward approximately 1° per day in its orbit.

Linear speed: The average linear speed of the Earth's revolution is 30 kilometers/second.

At the beginning of January every year, the earth moves to the perihelion, and the angular speed and linear speed of revolution are fast; at the beginning of July every year, the earth moves to aphelion, and the angular speed and linear speed of revolution are slow.
