"Guerrilla Song" was composed at the end of 1937. At that time, the author was working in the national salvation drama team. When I wrote this song, I lived in the Eighth Route Army Office in Linfen, Shanxi. When it was performed for the first time, it was warmly welcomed by the senior generals of the Eighth Route Army Headquarters. Then it spread throughout the country. The song was first published in the second issue of "Free China" published in May 1938. In the summer of the same year, it was adapted into four choruses in Wuhan. The 1942 film "Free China" used this song as an episode. In addition, he has composed the soundtrack for the large-scale documentary "North China is Ours". In 1964, the large-scale music and dance epic "The East is Red" used it as an important material. To this day, this song still retains its ever-lasting charm.

About the Author

He Luting (1903-1999) was a composer and music educator. A native of Dongxiang, Shaoyang, Hunan. In 1923, he entered Changsha Yueyun School Art College to study. Joined the party in 1926. He participated in the Guangzhou Uprising in 1927 and withdrew to Haifeng with the Fourth Red Army in 1928. In 1931, he entered the Shanghai National Music College and studied theoretical composition under Huang Zi. In 1934, his two piano pieces "Shepherd Piccolo" and "Lullaby" won the first prize and the honorary second prize in the "Solicitation for Chinese Style Piano Music" organized by Russian composer and pianist Zilpin. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, a team participating in the Shanghai National Salvation Drama went to North China to publicize the anti-Japanese war. Later, he went to Chongqing and taught in the music group of Yucai School and the music cadre training class of the Central Training Corps. In 1941, according to Comrade Zhou Enlai's instructions, he went to the anti-Japanese base area in northern Jiangsu to participate in the work of the New Fourth Army. In 1943, he went to Yan'an to prepare for the establishment of the Central Philharmonic Orchestra. Later he served as the leader of the North China Art Troupe. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as President of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association, Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association.
