The Boxer Rebellion, also known as Boxer Boxing, Boxer Rebellion Incident, Gengzi Incident, etc., was a peasant movement that took place in China at the end of the 19th century with the slogan "Support the Qing Dynasty and destroy the foreign countries". The Boxer Rebellion developed from Boxing boxing, folk secret societies and organizations practicing boxing and martial arts in Shandong and Zhili areas. At the end of the 19th century, with the intensification of imperialist aggression and the rampant activities of foreign missionaries, these organizations gradually transformed from anti-Qing secret societies or simple martial arts groups into broad mass anti-imperialist struggle organizations.

(7) The significance of the Boxer Movement:

Although the Boxer Rebellion failed, its historical significance is far-reaching.

2. Content:

①The Qing government paid 450 million taels of silver as compensation to various countries, using customs tax revenue as a guarantee, and it was repaid in 39 years, with a total principal and interest of 980 million taels;

② Demarcate Dongjiaominxiang in Beijing as the embassy boundary, allowing various countries to station troops for protection; Chinese people are not allowed to live within the boundary;

③The Qing government promised to strictly prohibit the Chinese people from participating in any anti-imperialist activities;

④ All the forts fortified along the railway from Dagu, Tianjin to Beijing were demolished, and the great powers were allowed to station troops at strategic locations along the railway from Beijing to Shanhaiguan.
