(2) The imaging principle of plane mirrors is the law of light reflection.

As shown in the figure below, the light rays SA and SC from a certain point (such as S) on the object are directed to the plane mirror. After being reflected by the plane mirror, they are emitted into the observer's eyes along the directions AB and CD. The observer feels that the reflected light rays seem to come from behind the mirror. So this image is called a virtual image. The object in front of the mirror can be seen as composed of many such points. Each point has an image in the mirror. These images form the image of the object. The image of the object in the plane mirror is also a virtual image.

Note: ① The virtual image is not formed by the intersection of actual light rays, but by the intersection of the reflection extension lines of actual light rays.
