1. Taiwan has been an integral part of China since ancient times.

Historically, Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times. Since the Three Kingdoms period, Taiwan has been inextricably linked with the motherland. During the Yuan Dynasty, Taiwan officially became an administrative region under the jurisdiction of the central government.

In 1662, Zheng Chenggong recovered Taiwan from the Dutch; in 1684, the Qing government established the Taiwan Prefecture in Taiwan, under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province.

In 1895, the Qing government was forced to cede Taiwan to Japan.

After Japan's defeat and surrender in 1945, Taiwan returned to the embrace of the motherland.

2. The origin of the Taiwan issue

In 1946, the Kuomintang group headed by Chiang Kai-shek, with the support of the United States, launched an all-out civil war against the Communist Party and the people. In 1949, the Kuomintang was defeated and retreated to Taiwan;

In 1950, after the Korean War broke out, the U.S. Seventh Fleet invaded the Taiwan Strait of China to prevent the People's Liberation Army from liberating Taiwan.

Four opinions

In 2005, when Hu Jintao visited the members of the Kuomintang Revolutionary League, the Taiwan Federation, and the Taiwan Federation of Taiwan Affairs Committee who were attending the CPPCC meeting, he put forward "four opinions" on the development of cross-strait relations under the new situation:

First, adhere to the one-China principle unswervingly

Second, we must never give up our efforts for peaceful reunification.

Third, we must implement the policy of placing our hopes on the people of Taiwan and not change it.

Fourth, we must oppose Taiwan independence and separatist activities without compromise.

*It is all about the great cause of the reunification of the motherland.

*The Taiwan issue is China's internal affairs issue, while the Hong Kong and Macao issue is a diplomatic issue.

*The solutions are all based on "one country, two systems", but the biggest difference is that Taiwan can retain its military as long as it does not pose a threat to the mainland; while Hong Kong and Macau need to send troops.
