Background: Africa-Ghana

Ghana is a country in western Africa, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Guinea in western Africa, bordering Côte d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, with a coastline of about 562 kilometers. The terrain is long from north to south and narrow from east to west. African drums are often used in two situations. One is as a background to accompany dancing, singing and other musical instruments; the other is as a drum played independently. In addition to divided rhythms with equal duration and regular rhythm, and additional rhythms with unequal duration and irregular beats, African drums often use a variety of rhythms to form a complex multi-part rhythmic texture.
