The film tells a true story that happened in Salzburg, Austria in 1938. In an old monastery there, there was a young trainee nun named Maria. She was cheerful and enthusiastic, liked singing and dancing, and was good at playing the guitar.

Richard Rogers (1902-1979), a famous contemporary American composer. Born in 1902 in a doctor's family in New York, he was influenced by his parents' love for music since childhood.
