1. Rules for multiplying monomials and monomials:
Generally, when multiplying a monomial by a monomial, multiply their coefficients and powers with the same base respectively. For letters contained in only one monomial, use its exponent as a factor of the product.

When powers with the same base are divided, the base remains unchanged and the exponents are subtracted.

Example 3. If a(xmy4)3÷(3x2yn)2=4x2y2, find the values of a, m and n.
Solution: ∵a(xmy4)3÷(3x2yn)2=4x2y2, ∴ax3my12÷9x4y2n=4x2y2, ∴a÷9=4, 3m-4=2, 12-2n=2,
The solution is a=36, m=2, n=5.
Example 4. The speed of light is about 3×108 meters/second, and the speed of an artificial earth satellite is 8×103 meters/second. How many times is the speed of light than the speed of the artificial earth satellite?
Solution: (3×108)÷(8×103)=(3÷8)·(108÷103)=3.75×104.
Answer: The speed of light is 3.75×104 times the speed of this artificial earth satellite.
