About the Author:

The famous modern poet Ai Qing, whose original name is Jiang Haicheng. Born on March 27, 1910 in Fantian Jiang, Jinhua County, Zhejiang Province, into a landlord family. He was raised by a poor peasant woman since he was a child, and returned to his parents' home at the age of five.

Graduated from junior high school in 1928 and was admitted to the Painting Department of the National West Lake Academy of Art. In the spring of the following year, he went to Paris, France, to study painting. At the same time, he was exposed to Russian critical realist novels, novels and poems about the Soviet October Revolution, and modern European poetry. "Dayanhe——My Nanny" is an autobiographical poem. Tracing the poet's life experience can provide us with the key to interpreting this poem. It is said that after Ai Qing was born, a fortune teller said that his fate would "defeat" his parents. Therefore, he was sent to the home of "Dayanhe", a poor peasant woman in the village, to be raised.

Ai Qing lived in the "Dayanhe" family for five years, and did not return to his parents' home until he was old enough to study. His biological parents were very indifferent to him, and he could not get a trace of family warmth in his young heart. Ai Qing later said that he "had no parents since he was a child." Only "Dayanhe", a poor and kind-hearted rural woman, loved her baby deeply and gave him warm maternal love. There was an unending love between them.
