Description
"Crystals under a Magnifying Glass" Tiny World PPT Courseware 3
There is not only the wonderful insect world around us, but also a wide variety of material world.
Have we paid attention to the structure of various substances?
If we use a magnifying glass to look at the material around us, what can we find?
Observe salt, sugar, and MSG particles with the naked eye. What do they look like?
Using a magnifying glass to observe them, what surprising discoveries do we make?
How are crystals formed?
Like salt, sugar, and MSG, solid substances with regular geometric shapes are called crystals.
Do factories use machines to cut them into this shape?
In fact, some crystals in nature are formed under certain pressure and temperature, such as mineral crystals formed after volcanic eruptions and magma cool down. Some crystals are born from solutions, such as salt crystals obtained by evaporation of sea water.
Most solid substances in nature are crystals or consist of crystals. Crystals come in many shapes, but they are all regular. Some are cubes, some are like pyramids, some are like clusters of needles... Some crystals are larger and visible to the naked eye, while some are smaller and can only be seen under a magnifying glass or microscope.
Make crystals
We can try to make salt crystals by evaporating water.
Make some concentrated solutions of salt, edible alkali or monosodium glutamate, use a dropper to drop a few drops on the glass piece, wait until the water evaporates naturally, use a magnifying glass to observe the traces they leave on the glass piece, and see what they look like?
