Authoritative PPT Summary
"Continents and Oceans" The world where humans live together PPT
Part One: Characteristics of the Earth’s Face
Do the math
The total area of the earth's surface is approximately 510 million square kilometers, of which 149 million square kilometers are land and 361 million square kilometers are oceans.
1. Three parts land, seven parts ocean
2. Uneven distribution of land and sea
Read Figures 2-4, schematic diagram of continents and islands, and identify the following concepts.
Land: continent, island, peninsula
Ocean: ocean, strait
How to distinguish continents from islands?
Greenland, with an area of 2.17 million square kilometers, is the largest island in the world. We call those with an area larger than it a continent, and those with an area smaller than it an island.
3. Seven continents and their geographical distribution
4. The dividing lines between continents
The dividing lines between continents are artificially divided. Mountains, rivers or lakes, straits or canals can be used as dividing lines.
The dividing line between Asia and Europe:
Ural Mountains-----Ural River----Greater Caucasus Mountains----Turkish Strait (Black Sea Strait)
The dividing line between Asia and Africa: the Suez Canal
The dividing line between North and South America: the Panama Canal
The dividing line between Asia and North America: the Bering Strait
The dividing line between Europe and Africa: the Strait of Gibraltar
Continents and Oceans PPT, Part 2: In-person Testing
1. In the universe, the earth looks more like a "water ball" because ( )
A. The entire surface of the earth is ocean
B. The earth is surrounded by water vapor
C. Seventy percent of the earth is sea
D. There is no water on the earth
2. The dividing line between Asia and Africa is ( )
A. Suez Canal B. panama canal
C. Bering Strait D. Strait of Gibraltar
Continents and Oceans PPT, Part 3: The Impact of the Ocean on Humanity
1. The concepts of sea, ocean and strait
A strait is a narrow waterway connecting two sea areas. Generally, the water depth is deeper and the current is faster. It is often of great significance in maritime transportation and strategy, and is the "throat" of maritime transportation.
The sea is the edge of the ocean, with a smaller area and shallower depth, and is generally close to the continent.
The ocean is far away from the continent and is the main part of the ocean.
Famous straits include: Malacca Strait, Gibraltar Strait, Turkish Strait (connecting the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea), Bering Strait (connecting the Arctic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean), and the Strait of Magellan (connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean).
2. The names and locations of the four oceans
The oceans on the earth's surface are divided into four oceans, arranged in descending order of area, namely the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Arctic Ocean.
Pacific Ocean: 1. The largest area (area 180 million square kilometers, accounting for about 49.8%).
2. The deepest body of water (average depth is 4028 meters), the deepest ocean in the world. The Mariana Trench is the deepest place in the world with a water depth of 11,034 meters.
3. The water temperature is the highest (the average surface water temperature is 19°C), making it the warmest ocean in the world.
4. It has the most islands (more than 10,000 large and small in total, and the island area accounts for more than 50% of the world’s total island area). It is the ocean with the most islands in the world.
Atlantic Ocean: With an area of 93 million square kilometers, it is the second largest ocean in the world, and its outline is slightly like an "S" shape. There are two wonders in the Atlantic Ocean: one is the unique "Sargasso Sea" in the world, and the other is the floating icebergs on the ocean surface. To the east of the North American continent, there is a sea area equivalent to 20 times the size of the United Kingdom. The sea is calm and covered with green and yellow sargassum. Some of these sargassums are 200 meters long, and some are less than an inch long. They are densely packed together and grow very lush, like a "grassland" on the sea. On the vast northern and southern seas of the Atlantic Ocean, you can often see huge crystal icebergs floating on the sea surface with the currents. These icebergs come from Greenland and Antarctica and enter the Atlantic Ocean after huge glaciers break off.
3. The importance of the ocean to humans
(1) Provide indispensable fresh water resources
The main body of the ocean is the ocean. The average water depth of the ocean is more than 2,000 meters. On the vast ocean surface, water vapor is constantly evaporated into the air, and then transported over the land by air currents. It falls to the ground through precipitation, becoming an indispensable water resource for mankind.
(2) Provide the benefits of sea salt and a source of energy
Seawater is rich in resources, such as various salts and fish. There are abundant mineral resources at the bottom of the ocean, such as oil, natural gas, etc.
(3) Expand living space and provide convenient sea access
