Description
"Connecting Series Circuits and Parallel Circuits" Understanding Circuits PPT Courseware 2
review
What did we learn in the last class?
1. Several common circuit components
2. Symbols of several common circuit components
Introduce new lessons
In the ________ we studied in the last class, we only used one electrical appliance. However, in an actual circuit, there are often more than one electrical appliance, sometimes two, three or even more. So how to connect them to the circuit? ?
In this lesson we will use these components to connect two commonly used basic circuits, namely series circuits and parallel circuits.
series circuit
1. Definition
2. Connect the physical diagram and draw the circuit diagram
3. Observe experimental phenomena and draw characteristics
4. Block diagram of series circuit knowledge structure
Definition of series circuit
As shown in the picture on the left, two small light bulbs are connected in sequence in the circuit. When one light bulb lights up, the other light bulb also lights up.
Connecting the components one by one like this is called a series circuit.
Series circuit diagram
Connection points: In a series circuit, the current starts from the positive terminal of the power supply, passes through the switch, the light bulb, and finally connects to the negative terminal of the power supply.
Characteristics of series circuits
1) There is only one path for current, and the current passing through one component also passes through the other.
2) Only one switch is needed in the circuit, and the position of the switch has no effect on the circuit.
parallel circuit
1. Definition
2. Observe experimental phenomena
3. Characteristics of parallel circuits
4. Block diagram of parallel circuit knowledge structure
Definition of parallel circuit
As shown on the left: Connect two light bulbs in parallel in the circuit, and install a switch on each. A circuit in which components are connected in parallel is called a parallel circuit.
Characteristics of parallel circuits
1) Electric current has two (or more) paths.
2) Each component can work independently.
3) The switch of the main circuit controls the entire main circuit, and the switch of the branch circuit only controls the branch circuit.
Think about it?
1. If there are two electrical appliances in the circuit, which of the following statements is correct: [ ]
A. After closing switch S, the two lights that light up at the same time must be connected in series.
B. After closing switch S, the two lights that light up at the same time must be connected in parallel.
C. After closing the switch S, the two lights that light up at the same time may be connected in parallel or in series.
D. Insufficient conditions make it impossible to determine.
2. Find the errors and deficiencies in the circuit connection diagram below.
A: The circuit is short-circuited. Although there are electrical appliances in the circuit, they are not connected to the circuit.
B: L2 in the circuit is not connected to the circuit, causing L2 to be partially open.
C: Although the circuit is connected correctly, it is easy to cause confusion due to crossed wires.
think
1. How are street lights connected on the road?
2. What other examples in life are series or parallel circuits?
3. Several electrical appliances are connected in series in a circuit. If one electrical appliance breaks down, can the other electrical appliances continue to work?
Summary (1)
series circuit
Definition: A circuit formed by connecting components one by one is called a series circuit.
Features: The current path is unique and the switch position is arbitrary.
parallel circuit
Definition: A circuit composed of components connected in parallel.
Features: When the main circuit is disconnected, the entire circuit becomes an open circuit; when a branch circuit is disconnected, other branch circuits are not affected.
