1.About the author:
Li Bai (701-762), also known as Taibai and Qinglian Jushi, was a romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty and was hailed as the "Immortal of Poetry" by later generations. His ancestral home is Longxi Chengji (to be tested). He was born in Suiye City in the Western Regions. He moved to Mianzhou, Jiannan Road with his father when he was 4 years old. Li Bai was a cheerful and generous man who loved drinking, writing poems, and making friends. There are more than a thousand poems and essays in existence, including the "Collection of Li Taibai" handed down to the world. Most of the poems were written when he was drunk. His representative works include "Looking at the Lushan Waterfall", "The Road is Difficult", "The Road to Shu is Difficult", "Jinjinjiu", "Liang Fuyin", "Early Morning" "Fa Baidi City" and many other songs. He died of illness in 762 at the age of 61. His tomb is in Dangtu, Anhui today, and there are memorial halls in Jiangyou, Sichuan, and Anlu, Hubei.
2. Writing background:
"Sending Meng Haoran to Guangling at the Yellow Crane Tower" is a work written by Li Bai during his grand tour to Shu. In the fifteenth year of Kaiyuan (727) of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Bai returned from traveling east and met Meng Haoran, who was twelve years older than him. Meng Haoran admired Li Bai very much, and the two soon became close friends. In March of the eighteenth year of Kaiyuan (730), Li Bai learned that Meng Haoran was going to Guangling (today's Yangzhou, Jiangsu), so he asked someone to bring the letter and asked to meet Meng Haoran in Jiangxia (today's Wuchang District of Wuhan City). A few days later, Meng Haoran sailed eastward, and Li Bai personally sent him to the riverside. When bidding farewell, I wrote this song "Farewell to Meng Haoran at the Yellow Crane Tower in Guangling".
