Little knowledge about the earth

The Earth is the third planet from the sun, counting from the inside out, and is about 150 million kilometers away from the sun. The earth orbits the sun once every 365 days and rotates once every 23.9 hours. Its diameter is about 12,756 kilometers, just over a hundred kilometers larger than Venus. People dream of traveling in space and admiring the wonders of the universe. And in a sense, we are all space travelers. Our spaceship is the Earth, flying at a speed of 108,000 kilometers per hour.

How do humans understand the structure of the earth's crust?

Scientists have finally found a way to use seismic waves to uncover the mysteries of the Earth's depths. It turns out that huge earthquakes will shake the earth, sending out sound waves like a giant hammer hitting copper. This sound wave has echoes and bends. When it encounters different materials underground, it will emit different tones.

In 1910, former Yugoslavian seismologist Mohorovich accidentally discovered that seismic waves were refracted 50 kilometers underground. He believed that this zone where refraction occurs is the interface between the earth's crust and different materials below the earth's crust. In 1914, German seismologist Gutenberg discovered that there was another interface between different materials 2,900 kilometers underground. Later, in order to commemorate them, people named the two surfaces "Moho surface" and "Gutenberg surface" respectively. Based on these two surfaces, the earth was divided into three layers: crust, mantle and core.
