Mu Dan (1918-1977), poet and translator. Originally named Zha Liangzheng, he was born in Tianjin and his ancestral home is Haining, Zhejiang.

Mu Dan's poetic style is rich in symbolic meaning and speculative color. He is a representative poet of the "Nine-leaf School of Poetry". Many modern literature experts regard him as the first person of modern poetry.

After graduating from Southwest Associated University in 1940, he stayed at the school to teach. He went to the United States to study in 1949 and returned to China in 1953, where he served as an associate professor at Nankai University. In 1958, he suffered political persecution and was transferred to library work. Died of heart disease in 1977.

This poem was written in 1938. The 20-year-old poet Mu Dan and hundreds of teachers and friends embarked on the school's westward migration journey of thousands of kilometers and arrived in Kunming.

Along the way, he witnessed the current situation of broken mountains and rivers, and personally experienced the suffering of reality, which further strengthened his confidence and desire to win the war of resistance. "We are walking on the path walked by our beloved ancestors." "We cannot resist, the hearts of countless generations of ancestors have Burning Hope”.

This article was written in the summer of 1938, when Mu Dan was only 20 years old, but he had already experienced two migrations and wandered nearly three thousand miles. Like many Chinese people at that time, he traveled through most of China due to the war, and experienced displacement, hunger and cold. But he still has not suffered too much from the harm of suffering. His soul still retains the vigor and vitality of a young man, and he retains a pure appreciation of nature.
