"The Impact of Human Activities on the Earth's Surface" Changes in the Earth's Surface PPT Courseware 3
What effects have you found of human activities on the earth's surface? How has the landscape changed?
What benefits do urban development and changes bring to us?
Do they have any adverse effects?
Most of China's major rivers, such as the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, flow from west to east into the sea. There needs to be a smooth river between the north and the south, which can only be dug (zao) by manpower. The working people of ancient China dug many artificial rivers, the most famous of which is the Grand Canal.
The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is a great water conservancy project in ancient China. It is also the earliest and longest grand canal in the world. It starts from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in the south and ends at Beiguan, Tong County, Beijing, in the north, with a total length of 1,794 kilometers, running through six provinces and cities, and flowing through the five major water systems of Qiantang River, Yangtze River, Huaihe River, Yellow River and Haihe River. For more than a thousand years, it has been the main artery of transportation between the north and the south of our country, promoting the prosperity of various industries such as commerce, culture, and services.
Its excavation went through three historical stages: In 486 BC, King Wu Fucha excavated Hangou in Yangzhou for the first time, connecting the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River. During the Sui Dynasty in the 7th century and the Yuan Dynasty in the 13th century, canals were dug twice on a large scale, and this artery was finally built to connect the north and south of my country. The section from Tianjin to Beiguan and Zhangjiawan in Tong County is called Beiyun Canal, also known as Road River, with a total length of 186 kilometers. The section from Tong County to Beijing is called Tonghui River. The river was designed and built by Guo Shoujing, a great water conservancy expert and astronomer in the early Yuan Dynasty. Because the terrain of Beijing is higher than that of Tongxian County, five gates were built on the Tonghui River to control the water level so that large ships coming from the south could directly reach Jishuitan in Beijing. At that time, Jishuitan was "covered by boats and boats" and became a large port for north-south water transportation. The nearby market was prosperous and the event was unprecedented. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has been running smoothly for hundreds of years, which has played an important role in promoting economic and cultural exchanges between the north and the south of the Yangtze River and solving problems such as the south-to-north grain diversion. However, since the 19th century, due to the opening of the north-south sea transport, the opening of the Jinpu Railway, and the diversion of the Yellow River to block the middle section of the canal, some sections of the river have been cut off. Only the Jiangsu-Zhejiang line is still open and has become a tourist hotline. In order to meet the needs of the rapid development of my country's modern tourism industry, in recent years, the Grand Canal tourist area and Memorial Hall, etc., Chinese and foreign tourists can come here to see the charming style of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in the past.
