Ability 1: Factors and processes of formation of wind-eroded mushrooms

1. Factors forming wind-eroded mushrooms:

(3) Surface material (sand source supply): The amount of sand supply is related to the scale of sand dune development. For example, the sand dunes on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert are lower because there is less fine sand and medium sand on the surface; the sand dunes inside the desert are taller, which is related to the abundance of fine sand and medium sand on the surface.

(4) The better the water and vegetation conditions are, the less favorable it is for the development of sand dunes.

2. Characteristics and movement patterns of moving sand dunes:

(1) Movement: The sand grains on the windward slope continue to cross the top of the dune and slide down under the blow of the wind. In this way, the sand moves continuously, and the dune moves forward slowly, becoming a mobile dune.

(2) Characteristics: The two slopes of the flowing mound are asymmetrical. The windward slope is convex and gentle, while the leeward slope is concave and steep.
