Description
"Meet the Envoy to Beijing" PPT download
Part One: Getting closer to the author
[Cen Shen] (about 715-770), a frontier poet in the Tang Dynasty, was a native of Nanyang. He was the great-grandson of Cen Wenwen, a hero of Taizong's reign. He later moved to Jiangling. During the reign of Emperor Daizong, he served as the governor of Jiazhou (now Leshan, Sichuan), which was known as "Cen Jiazhou" in the world.
Cen Shen's poems are good at seven-character songs. His representative work is "Baixuege Sends Magistrate Wu Back to the Capital". Three hundred and sixty poems exist. He has a close feeling for the scenery of the frontier fortress, military life, and the cultural customs of ethnic minorities, so he has many excellent frontier fortress poems. The style is similar to Gao Shi, and many descendants call him "Gao Cen".
PPT for envoys entering Beijing, part 2: writing background
According to Liu Kaiyang's "Chronological Notes of the Collection of Cen Shen's Poems·Cen Shen Chronicle", this poem was written in 749 AD (the eighth year of Tianbao) when the poet was on his way to Anxi (now Kuqa County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) to take office. This was Cen Shen's first trip to the Western Regions to serve as secretary of the shogunate for Gao Xianzhi, the governor of Anxi. At this time, the poet was 34 years old. His fame in the first half of his life was unsatisfactory, so he had no choice but to go to the fortress to serve.
He said goodbye to his wife in Chang'an, jumped on his horse and embarked on a long journey, leaving Yangguan in the west and rushing to Anxi. Cen Shen didn't know how many days he had walked. On the road leading to the Western Region, he suddenly ran into an old acquaintance. We talked immediately, exchanging warm words. Knowing that the other party was going back to Beijing to report on his work, I couldn't help but feel a little sad. At the same time, I thought of asking him to send a letter from home to Chang'an to comfort his family and report that he was safe. This poem describes this scene.
PPT for envoys coming to Beijing, part three: reading poetry
Read poetry aloud, pronounce the words correctly, and pay attention to the rhythm.
When the envoy came to Beijing, Cen Shen
Hometown/Looking east/The road is long,
Shuangxiu/Longzhong/Tears never dry.
See you soon/meet you/without pen and paper,
Pingjun/message/report peace.
Read the poem again and use the annotations to understand the main idea.
The road to the east of my hometown is long, and my sleeves are full of tears.
We will meet soon without pen and paper, so I can rely on you to send messages of peace.
main idea:
Looking eastward to our home in Chang'an, the road is far away,
The tears of thought wetted my sleeves and blurred my face.
Meeting in a hurry without paper or pen,
I just ask you to ensure that my family is safe.
When an envoy comes to Beijing PPT, the fourth part: poetry appreciation
"The road to the east of my hometown is long"
What I write is the actual feeling at hand. The poet has been away from his "hometown" for many days and is on his way to the Western Regions. Looking back at his hometown of Chang'an in the east is of course a long journey, and the feeling of longing cannot help but hit his heart, and the homesickness is hard to control.
"The dragon on the sleeves will never dry up in tears"
The tears of homesickness could not be wiped away, so much so that both sleeves were wet, but the tears could not be stopped.
This sentence uses an exaggerated rhetorical technique to express the feeling of missing relatives, and also lays a good foundation for the following text to be sent home to "report safety".
"We will meet soon without pen and paper, I will rely on you to send messages of peace"
The word "meeting" brings up the topic. On the way to Anxi, I met an old friend who was a messenger to Beijing. I happened to ask the old friend to bring back a letter from the safe family. However, I didn't have paper and pen, and I couldn't write a letter. I had to ask the old friend to bring him back home. A message from an old friend.
The last line of the poem is very simple and neatly wrapped up, but the simplicity embodies the poet's deep feelings, which makes it taste light and charming. Cen Shen went on this trip with the ambition of "getting fame only from horses". At this time, his mood was complicated. On the one hand, he has the tenderness of longing for the imperial capital and his hometown, and on the other hand, he also expresses the poet's heroic ambition to make achievements. Tenderness and heroic sentiments are intertwined and blended, which is deeply touching.
PPT for envoys coming to Beijing, part five: exploration of the theme
This poem is about the poet's encounter with an eastbound traveler heading to Chang'an on his way to the west. It evokes the poet's infinite homesickness and expresses the poet's broad, heroic, optimistic and unrestrained mind in order to make achievements. The ups and downs of the journey and the heartbreaking homesickness are deeply revealed in the poem.
