Mo Mei
(Yuan) Wang Mian
There are trees beside the inkstone washing pond at my house.
Flowers bloom with faint ink marks.
Don't let anyone praise the color.
Only pure energy is left to fill the universe.
Inkstone washing pool: a pool for washing pens and inkstones after writing or drawing. According to legend, Wang Xizhi, a great calligrapher of the Jin Dynasty, came to the pond to study calligraphy and frequently washed his brushes and inkstones. The pond water turned dark. There are ruins of inkstone washing pools at the foot of Kuaiji Mountain in Zhejiang and Linchuan in Jiangxi. Legend has it that they were both places where Wang Xizhi washed inkstones. The poet is a famous painter. He uses light ink to paint plum blossoms elegantly. Because he has the same surname as Wang Xizhi, he calls it "my family", which is a metaphor for his skill.
[Light ink marks]
The light black traces refer to the color of the flower.
[Qingqi]

The flowers are dotted with light ink, and the petals and stamens are outlined with thick ink, making them look particularly fresh and beautiful. Finally, back to the poem, this is what the poet wants to express, "the flowers are blooming and the ink marks are faint".
