In 1820, Danish scientist Oersted accidentally brought an electrified wire close to a compass during an experiment and discovered a strange phenomenon. It is this phenomenon that opens the door for mankind to utilize electrical energy on a large scale.

Assemble a circuit that lights up a small light bulb. Do you see if the light bulb lights up? Recall the path electricity takes in a circuit.

Starting from the positive terminal of the battery, it flows through the circuit and back to the negative terminal of the battery.

Material preparation:

Batteries, battery box, small light bulb, lamp holder, wires (one of which is longer), compass, stranded insulated wire about two meters long.

Put a compass on the table. What direction does the compass point after the needle stops swinging? Straighten the wire in the circuit over the compass needle in the same direction as the magnetic needle points. What happens to the compass when the current is turned on? What happens to the compass after the current is disconnected? Repeat this several times, and what is the result?
