1. Usage of where

Where is an interrogative adverb, meaning "(at) where; (at) where" and is used to ask questions about adverbs or prepositional phrases that express location. Interrogative sentences guided by interrogative words such as where are called special interrogative sentences.

Sentence pattern Where is/are＋subject (person or thing)? Where is is followed by a subject in the singular sense, and are is followed by a subject in the plural sense. e.g.:

Where are your books? Where is your book?

When answering, use the sentence pattern "subject + is/are + prepositional phrase indicating location." The subject generally uses it, he, she or they to replace the singular and plural subjects in the sentence. e.g.:

—Where is your sister? Where is your sister?

—She is in the room. She is in the room.

[Note] where is can be abbreviated to where's, but where are cannot be abbreviated.

2. Positional prepositions: on, in, under

When the preposition on refers to a place, it means "on..." and refers to someone or something being on top of another object (surface contact, close contact up and down).

When referring to a place, in means "inside (inside)".

Under means "under..." and on are antonyms to each other. e.g.:

on the desk

in the bedroom

under the bed

3. I don't know. I don't know.

It is mainly used when you cannot answer a question asked by others. You often say "I don't know." To show politeness, you can also add sorry or I'm sorry in front of it.

Don't is the abbreviation of do not. Do is an auxiliary verb with no actual meaning. It helps the substantial verb know to form a negative sentence.
